WO Adult Skaters Participate in the First Ever WO Adult
Skating Seminar,
September 12, 2008
On Friday, September 12th, 26 WO Adult Skaters participated in
the 1st Adult Skating Seminar hosted by Skate Canada - Western
Ontario in Hamilton.
John Briscoe lead the skaters through some stroking exercises,
working on turns and edges while Susie McGrigor did a creative
movement ice class.
Lunch and an open forum discussion group followed off the ice.
The open forum panel included John, Susie, Carol Moir and Shannon
Cotnam. Great discussion, ideas and concerns were heard and recorded.
Great start to the Adult skating season! Keep up the enthusiasm!
‘There is a real magic in enthusiasm. It spells the difference
between mediocrity and accomplishment.' ~ Norman Vincent Peale

Promoting Adult Skating in Your Club
We've had a number of inquiries about starting up adult skating
in our clubs. Here's a document prepared by Skate Canada we thought
might help.
Adult Skating Programs
| Adult skating is growing in popularity and more
and more clubs are offering recreational, test and competitive
opportunities to this segment of the population. |
|
Adults participate in CanSkate, STARSkate and CanPowerSkate programs
as well as on Synchronized Skating teams. Adult championships
currently provide opportunities to adult skaters to experience
the challenge of a competition in a fun, social environment. Skate
Canada is currently expanding its programming in this area.
Although adult-only sessions are ideal, many clubs share ice
among programs very successfully. Here are some ideas to consider:
- Adult Learn-to-Skate with CanSkate, Preschool CanSkate
- Adult Primary STARSkate with CanSkate
- Adult STARSkate with STARSkate
- Adult Synchro
