Shelley Barnett
Professional

Shelley has been a professional coach since 1982. She is a Gold Medalist in Dance, Free Skate and Figures and competed at the National level in Senior Ladies. Shelley also skated professionally with Disney on Ice and Stars on Ice.

Shelley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Windsor. She has coached many skaters to National and International levels in singles and synchronized skating. In 1991 she joined the Burlington Skating Club and launched an incredible record of podium finishes at all levels of synchro.

Shelley Barnett

Shelley has excelled in providing the necessary training techniques and creative programs for her NEXXICE Senior synchronized skating teams over a number of years including the crowning of the Senior NEXXICE team as 2009 World Synchronized Skating Champions.

In 1994, Shelley became the Director of NEXXICE Synchronized Skating Teams. (Seven teams are in the current organization: Beginner, Juvenile, Novice, Intermediate, Open, Junior and Senior). Shelley has been the coach of the Senior NEXXICE team since its inception in 2001. Originally this was a joint effort between the Burlington Skating Centre and the Kitchener-Waterloo Skating Club. NEXXICE Senior Team won its ninth consecutive Canadian Senior Synchronized Skating title in Quebec City on February 28, 2015. NEXXICE was the World Bronze Medalist in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, NEXXICE won the World Gold Medal and have been World Silver Medalists 3 consecutive years, from 2012 to 2014.

Throughout her coaching career she has been awarded the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Award from 2007-2009 and 2012-2014. Shelley received the 1994 Province of Ontario Female Coach of the Year, the 2008 Skate Canada Competitive Coach Award of Excellence.
